WHAT IS BOOK MORE WOMEN?
Book More Women is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to advance gender equity in the music industry. We research where and why inequity exists and share that data and knowledge to shift how the industry and public understand it. We design solutions to work directly with organizations to address barriers, and to support artists and industry professionals in navigating those that remain.
We believe lasting change requires both changing the systems that create inequity and strengthening the ability of the people navigating those systems to break through it.

Coachella Music and Arts Festival 2025Since 2018, Book More Women has used social media to make the data revealing inequity in festival lineups visible, accessible, and impossible to ignore.
With over 600 lineups analyzed and edited posters shared, the project has sparked industry-wide conversation and been featured in outlets like Rolling Stone, The Boston Globe, and Nylon.
Book More Women formally organized as a nonprofit in September 2025, operating as a fiscally sponsored project of Fractured Atlas before receiving independent 501(c)(3) status in June 2026.
Now, we're moving from awareness to action and designing programs to put the data to work. We’re here to change the numbers for good.
WHY BOOK MORE WOMEN?
The music industry consistently underrepresents women and nonbinary artists and professionals. These inequities are produced and sustained by interconnected systems, including industry norms and incentives, unequal access to knowledge, relationships and opportunities, structural barriers, and bias in who is perceived as skilled, valuable, or worth investing in.
These conditions affect who can enter the industry, access opportunities, build sustainable careers, reach positions of influence, and ultimately shape music culture.
Impact is compounded for people who experience marginalization across race, sexuality, disability, class, and other identities.

The specific decisions, incentives, and power structures that produce and protect the current system are rarely discussed transparently or systematically measured, and the artists, industry professionals, and music fans who could help close these gaps often lack the data, tools, and access to do so.
Book More Women means more for everyone. Gender equity isn’t a zero-sum game. Removing systemic biases benefits all. When the music industry becomes more inclusive, it benefits artists, organizations, audiences, and the culture as a whole.
WHY NOW?
After 8 years of tracking a slow improvement in gender equity in music, momentum has plateaued. Systemic inequity continues to push women, nonbinary, and trans artists out of the field. Finances, caregiving imbalance, and harassment act as exit points that silence voices and end careers. At the same time, the platforms that most support these voices (public radio, nonprofit programs, local festivals) face immediate threats as federal arts funding is slashed and threatened. Without intentional action, we risk losing these critical voices and the spaces that uplift them.
On top of this, the music industry is in a moment of immense change. Shifting power structures, technology, and data are reshaping music in real time. We must use this window to reform the system into something human-centered. What we do now will determine whether this transformation concentrates power or builds a more equitable and sustainable ecosystem.

Book More Women believes in intersectional gender equity for all. Our name includes the word “Women,” but we support and provide representation data on nonbinary and transgender individuals. We never use women as a catch-all. Learn more here.

We turn what we learn into accessible data, knowledge, and public narrative, challenging assumptions and helping artists, industry pros, and music consumers understand how the industry functions and find opportunities to participate in change.

We put the knowledge into action by working directly with those shaping the industry to shift practices, change behaviors, and dismantle barriers, and by providing those navigating the industry with tools to expand access and opportunity.
