It's 2023. All-male acts make up 64% of major US music festival lineups.
mission
The inspiration behind #bookmorewomen is the pervasive gender imbalance that currently plagues music festivals.
The goal is to provide a visual representation of the problem, start conversations, track progress, and work towards better representation on future lineups.
methodology
Any band, group, or solo artist who is or features at least one woman or non-binary musician as a permanent member will remain on the poster. Official social media pages, press photos, and interviews are used to determine who is and is not an official member of a group.
Percentages posted on twitter and instagram are based on the total number of musical acts booked for the festival and the total number of musical acts who meet the above criteria. Non-musical acts such as comedians or visual artists are not considered. Acts with no set roster such as Grand Ole Opry at Bonnaroo or Songs For Kids at Shaky Knees are not considered.
NEW
“This visual representation of the gender disparity on lineups highlights the issue in a way that we hadn’t seen before. They are providing our industry, and the public, with a tool to reference and call out gender discrepencies with just a glance”
